Making creativity a priority

Creativity is something I do not have in great supply. However, as a teacher and a Christian, creativity is a necessity. I read the book "The Liberated Imagination: Thinking Christianly about the Arts" in college. It really helped me realize that how you spend your leisure time is a reflection on not only your education, but also your faith. That book talks a lot about how God, the Creator, created us, therefore, we continue creation through what we do and how we spend our time.

My husband and I went to Las Vegas for a few days this past week. We went to see the show "Cirque De Soleil- The Beatles Love". It was amazing! The amount of creativity it took to plan the costumes, the props, the choreography, let alone the symbolism and storyline was mind boggling. I think I may have the creativity to design one of the costumes, and that's about it. So, I decided to make thinking creatively a priority.

I used to be an editor for a publishing company, editing and writing children's curriculum. My senior editor decided we would read the book "The Sound of Paper" and do the creative projects as a team. About halfway through the book, my husband and I moved to Texas, and I stopped reading and doing the activities. My plan is to start the book again, reading each short chapter and doing each assignment. I plan to share my creations on here, if it's possible. My hope is that I'll tap into the creativity God gave me and make it a priority to keep up with it, even when the insanely busy school year begins. Let's hope!

  2. Love it Abby-I might have to look the book up! Getting a Masters in leisure I need to find creative ways to experience leisure besides school work and working out.
